Philosophy Statement

ARTIST

I am primarily a printmaker and mixed media artist. My work, printed under my logo, Pamelas Press,  is a visual narrative of the people, traditions, and socio-political events that influence my life.  I combine both images and words in my work to tell a story.

RESEARCHER

TEACHER

As an artist educator my research is both scholarly and creative with a social justice focus. My research interests encompass the use of narrative (visual, verbal and written) in creating meaningful art education experiences within community settings that focus on developing transformative connections between diverse groups of people across the lifespan

As an artist-teacher I strive to expose my students to new ideas, to challenge them to think deeply and critically about what art is, and to cultivate in them artistic behaviors.  As future art teachers, students need to explore and broaden their own artistic proclivities and interests, to continue to grow as artists as their own creative endeavors are a source of inspiration for their teaching and practice based research.
